Whether you’re pursuing aviation as a hobby or launching a professional career, our FAA-Certified Private Pilot Helicopter Course is the foundation for all future helicopter training.

 Course Overview

Our Private Pilot Helicopter program provides the essential skills and knowledge to safely operate a helicopter as pilot-in-command. You’ll receive one-on-one instruction from experienced CFIs in modern, well-maintained aircraft — while following a structured curriculum that meets all FAA Part 61.109(c) requirements.

What You'll Learn:

  • Helicopter systems and aerodynamics

  • Weather theory and interpretation

  • Airspace, charts, and navigation

  • Emergency procedures and risk management

  • Communication, ATC procedures, and regulations

  • Preflight, startup, hover, air work, and cross-country flight

  • FAA written test prep and practical exam readiness

 FAA Training Requirements

To earn your Private Pilot Certificate – Rotorcraft/Helicopter, the FAA requires:

 Flight Time – Minimum 40 Hours

  • 20 Hours Dual Instruction
    With an FAA-certified instructor, including:

    • 3 hours of cross-country training

    • 3 hours of night training (if applicable)

    • 3 hours of simulated instrument flight

    • 3 hours of checkride prep within 60 days

  • 10 Hours Solo Flight
    Including:

    • 3 hours of solo cross-country

    • 1 solo flight of at least 25 NM with 3 takeoffs/landings at another airport

 Note: Most students require 45–60 hours for proficiency.

 Ground School Requirements

In addition to flight training, students must complete ground instruction on:

  • FAA regulations & airspace

  • Helicopter aerodynamics & systems

  • Weather theory & decision-making

  • Flight planning, charts, performance calculations

  • Weight and balance

  • Emergency scenarios

  • Night operations

  • Preparation for the FAA Knowledge Test

Ground Instruction @ $65/hr.

We offer instructor-led ground training, online options, and personalized one-on-one sessions to fit your learning style.

 Eligibility Requirements

Training can begin at any age - but you must 

  • Be at least 16 years old to fly solo

  • Be at least 17 years old to earn your license

  • Be able to read, speak, and understand English

  • Hold a valid Third-Class FAA Medical Certificate

  • Pass a TSA background check (for non-U.S. citizens)
